What's So Special About this Auction?

It's my one year anniversary of selling my felties on eBay! It's been a blast. As a way of saying thank you to all of my awesome customers, I"m starting the bidding at only one cent with no reserve!

That's not all that makes this auction special. I will also donate at least 50% from the proceeds from this sale to help those affected by the recent Australian bushfires. Through a needle felting forum that I belong to, I've met some really wonderful artists and kind people. They have organized a charity event to benefit the Australian Red Cross starting this April 10 featuring donated needle felted art from around the globe. I'm a bit late to send mine to Austalia. So I decided to donate to them from this eBay sale instead. So if you pick up a bargain cool. But if the bidding gets a bit wild even better! You'll know that you'll be supporting a worthy cause.

Thanks & Good Luck Bidding!

8 Months Later

Well it's been over 7 months since my last post. I haven't been painting much since February. I've been kind of taking a break. But I've started needle felting. It's a process of repeatedly poking a barbed needle into wool roving to make sculptures. Above is one of my creations. It is of Ndeze, the little gorilla whose mother and other family members were murdered last year on July 22. You can read my post about it earlier in this blog. My little feltie of Ndeze is up for auction on eBay now. I plan to give 20% from the sale to the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project. They have taken on the responsibility of raising her and hopefully releasing her back to her home.

Here's the link to my feltie Ndeze's auction:

I've also started a painting of Senkwekwe, the murdered silver back leader of the Rugendo family. Diddy recently posted a video of the Rugendo family in the Gorilla Protection blog. It was taken just a few days before the attack. Senkwekwe was watching over his family. That careful concern is the inspiration for this painting. I can imagine his spirit still looking after and protecting the remaing members of his band. I'm titling the painting "Watchful Eyes".
Here's my initial sketch:

Moonlit Timber Wolf Original Miniature Painting

"Moonlit Timber Wolf”
5” x 7”
Acrylics on Canvas Panel

© R.J.Andreae 2007

Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary is a wonderful organization that rescues, gives sanctuary to wolves and wolf-dog mixes. They educate the public about wolves and wolf hybrids using some of the rescued wolves as ambassadors. I am offerring a 2o% donation from sale of this painting to them. Please check out their website at http://www.wildspiritwolfsanctuary.org/.

The starting bid for this painting is only $24.95, Buy it Now for $45.00. Not a bad price to have an original piece of miniature art and help for the wolves.

Please feel free to pass along this message to anyone who you think maybe interested in helping the wolves by donating to Wild Spirit directly or by purchasing some of my art. Enter the acronym WSWS in eBay's search bar to see more art being sold on their behalf.

Rhodesian Ridgeback Portrait, 75% to Help Maasai Mara Vet

African Copper
10" x 8" x 0.75"
Acrylics on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
© R.J.Andreae 2007
11-09-2007

The inspiration for this painting of a Rhodesian Ridgeback came from a blog by Asuka Takita that I have been visiting recently. She is an amazing, dedicated veterinarian working in the Maasai Mara. Using her own vehicle to reach remote villages, she and her assistant, Lesingo, have vaccinated 2,550 dogs against rabies and distemper this year. The rough Mara roads have taken their toll on her vehicle. It is now beyond repair and she has no way to reach the other villages to prevent the spread of rabies. She has been with out a reliable vehicle for over a month. Just last month, 2 children, from an area she was to go to, were attacked by rabid dogs. This means most certain death. Did you know that 100 children worldwide die everyday from rabies? That’s over 3,000 children a month dieing from a very preventable disease.

I am pledging 75% from the sale of this painting to go towards a new vehicle for her. I know it is only a drop in the bucket. But like the saying goes, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time”,(Not that I’d recommend eating elephants).

If you would like to learn more about Asuka and donate directly to her, please visit her blog, Mara Mobile Veterinary Unit.
